Fast-food content vs. Gourmet dish

Fast-food content vs. Gourmet dish

This week’s lesson comes from Suchandra Banerjee, one of the participants in PROJECT CONQUER. A few sessions ago, Suchandra brought up an interesting point about fast-food content vs. gourmet dish. It’s worthwhile for all of us to take note – this is good 😊.

This lesson relates to the Law of Environment, which is not only the people we surround ourselves with, but the content we consume.

Here’s what Suchandra shares:

Since our lives, in some sense, boils down to the sum of total of choices we make, the role of the content we expose ourselves to and actively consume has a major impact on how we shape up as human beings and individuals.

What we gravitate towards is partly informed by the content we invest our time consuming. Think of a little baby crawling out of a room, and the mother running after to change its crawl-course to safety! (Not sure if ‘crawl-course’ is a word but let’s just go with it 😊). Our minds are like babies and our will power and aspiration perhaps like a mother protecting that baby.

When I’m trying to analyze the content that I’m surrounded by, I use the fast-food content vs gourmet dish comparator.

Fast food items are tasty, easy, fun and unhealthy, all rolled in one. We could eat it once in a while but making this a habit will cause us irreversible harm. Gourmet dishes are carefully prepared, time-consuming, delicious and wholesome all in one. We’re lucky when we’re served gourmet meals, or if we manage to prepare them ourselves. They take time and effort but considerably add to the quality of our lives.

The content we consume  is the same. Reality TV for instance often comes across as fast food to me. Historical documentaries or good books feel like gourmet meals.

When faced with a choice, I often ask myself:

💥 Is the short-term pleasure of a fast-food indulgence worth it, or is the long-term benefit of a well-cooked gourmet meal equal to the investment of time and patience it needs?

I know my answer. What is yours?

There’s a third kind of content that I call  ‘comfort food’ content. That’s under which I categorize my constant return to old songs, some poetry and a couple of classics reading which makes me happy. You see, comfort food doesn’t guarantee a benefit, just some ‘comfort’ when you need it.
