What’s easier? To follow or lead?

I had posted this in the Conquer Leadership Facebook group last week and the responses were fantastic.

For instance, one comment that resonated with me a lot was from my bro-in-law. Or maybe I’m biased and am sharing his response to win some brownie points 😁. I guess you’ll never know.

That said, from what broski-in-law shared, to become the ‘teacher’, one must start off as the ‘student’. How important is it to flip between the two? “team player” mindset and “leader” mindset?

I’d say it’s essential. A great leader knows when it’s time to steer the ship, or play a role as simply part of the collective.

Politics – WHAT?!?!…nope!

Let’s take politicians for instance. Now, I’m NOT a politics guy but it does paint a clear picture.

You have the Prime Minister role. Who works alongside the Prime Minister? His/her cabinet. That “team” together forms the collective. Each member of the team is part of that collective.

Yet, when each Minister walks away from the team environment, they are themselves also a leader for their respective teams and constituents.

So they’re not only leaders within their immediate circles, but also part of the larger collective.

LEADERSHIP LESSON: Get more comfortable with knowing when to lead, and when to be part of the collective.

Remember, leadership starts with the most important building block – communication + connection. That then builds influence which rolls up into leadership.

And why is this important? Because we’re all leaders in some way. That includes YOU – yes you – you right there! 😜
