Shoot the puck

Shoot the puck

This is something I learned from one of my professors during my master’s program …. which came up in a recent coaching conversation with a client.

I remember back to when I was working on my capstone project for my master’s. It was a gigantic scary piece of work, but chunking it down to mini assignments was extremely helpful.

I did the work. Leaned on my capstone supervisor for support and guidance. Edited, reflected, corrected – a cycle that I could have easily gotten stuck in. Because hey, it’s my capstone and I want it to be perfect. But perfection is an illusion – it doesn’t exist.

Once I put in full effort for each chunked down portion of the capstone, I had to simply SHOOT THE PUCK … as in … take action … as in submit the work and keep moving forward!

You see, preparation, strategy, practice, honing your skills, planning .. It’s all vital.

But at some point .. You have to take action, otherwise, what’s the point of all the prep?

Imperfect action > perfect strategy.

Whatever you’re working on, whether a sales presentation, new software development, onboarding a new team, choosing the best daycare for your child – do the prep, YES.

At some point you have to simply … SHOOT THE PUCK!

In other news…

Proximity is power

This is what happens when you surround yourself with like-minded people focused on growth.

A member of the PROJECT CONQUER mastermind group had shared this (permission received to use this).

Your thoughts turn into words, which turn into actions which turn into behaviours.

Find your people … and CONQUER the heck out of your goals! The scarier the goals the better … you’ll thank yourself later 😁.

“Surround yourself with the dreamers, and the doers, the believers, and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.” Edmund Lee
