Ever notice how the best salespeople aren’t “selling” at all?
They’re connecting.
Listening.
Asking questions that make you think.
Not just about their product, but about your own possibilities.
That’s what my guest, Anna Granic, and I explored on this episode of ConquerCast.

🎧 Listen to the full ConquerCast episode and conquer your sales potential: Sales Skills Are People Skills
Anna’s a powerhouse in sales, motivation, and LinkedIn strategy. Her story’s one of grit and growth .. moving from health/fitness to sales leadership to becoming a sought-after speaker.
We talked about how sales skills are really people skills .. and why trust isn’t built in a sales conversation. It’s built in the space between.
Because in business .. and in leadership .. connection is the currency!
Three BIG ideas
Anna shared how presence, consistency, and personal growth fuel every great conversation.
We also unpacked three powerful ideas:
✅ Sales skills are people skills.
The more you understand people, the easier the sales part becomes.
✅ Connection always comes before conversion.
When you genuinely connect .. whether on LinkedIn, in a meeting, or during a follow-up .. relationships form. And relationships lead to opportunity.
✅ You’ll never reach “the top”. There’s always another level.
The mountain keeps growing as you do. Each stage of growth demands new habits, skills, and questions. Essentially .. A new version of YOU!

BONUS: 10 tactical moves
Here are 10 simple but powerful sales and leadership practices coming out of Anna’s conversation and what I’ve learned over the years:
1.Ask. Don’t Assume.
Great leaders don’t jump to solutions .. they get curious first. The right questions reveal what people really think, feel, and need before you ever try to influence or decide.
2.Follow Up – Without Saying “Just Following Up.”
Ditch the generic follow-up language. Instead, reference what was discussed and ask if it makes sense to move forward. Specificity shows confidence, not desperation .. and builds momentum naturally.
3.Train Presence, Not Just Performance.
Your attention is your greatest leadership skill. When you fully show up (phones down, eyes up) people feel seen, heard, and valued. That’s where influence begins.
4.Health Fuels Leadership & Sales.
Your energy is your credibility. Exercise, sleep, and nutrition aren’t side tasks .. they’re leadership tools that directly impact your clarity, tone, and confidence. Health is literally fuel for peak performance!
5.Co-Create the Solution.
When presenting a proposal or possible solution, give your client options .. not ultimatums. Co-creating builds ownership and buy-in without losing control of the process. You’re not handing over the wheel, you’re inviting them to navigate with you.
6.Document the Climb.
After every win, capture it in one line: “What did I learn?” Reflection builds pattern recognition .. the foundation of better judgment, storytelling, and stronger leadership.
7.Connect Before You Correct.
Before offering feedback or direction, take time to understand. Connection lowers defences, builds trust, and turns tough conversations into growth moments.
8.Book a Meeting from the Meeting. (BAMFAM)
Never leave the next step hanging. Before wrapping up, confirm a follow-up meeting on the spot and offer two possible time slots.
9.Micro-Reflection Habit.
End each day with three quick check-ins by using the WIN Method: What went well? What can I improve? What can I do differently next time? .. This keeps growth simple, steady, and sustainable.
10.Make Every Discovery Call Valuable.
When scheduling, mention something of value you’ll share .. an insight, idea, framework, or relevant resource .. and then deliver. People remember the value you gave, not the meeting invite you sent. When they walk away having learned something, trust compounds. And the next conversation happens naturally.
