I know I throw a lot of questions at you each and every week. The reason is to encourage you to think into taking action.
This week, we’re shaking things up. No questions for you – it’s all on me. I’d like to share some frequently asked questions that I’ve been receiving about the work I do in the leadership development and coaching space.
So sit back. Grab your coffee, tea or protein shake and enjoy.
I’ve never had a coaching conversation before. Can you tell me more about what coaching is?
Coaching is rooted in self-leadership and is all about uncovering and discovering the next best version of you.
It allows for a safe space where the focus is on you: challenging any limiting beliefs, fears or obstacles. And ultimately highlighting your areas of strength and developing a strategy to progress in the areas you choose.
Through the process of asking you the right questions at the right time, we dig below the surface and together identify the best way for you to break through that terror barrier.
The end goal is to help take you from your comfort zone to your growth zone – that’s where the magic is! This is done in a strategic way where we measure results. Because what doesn’t get measured doesn’t get done!
What’s your approach to leadership development?
My approach is based on a mastermind group model that involves learning concepts, application and discussing the wins and challenges.
Think of it as a leadership development roundtable. This is a powerful model because it balances teaching/lessons on the subject matter and group interaction and introspection. Participants have the opportunity to learn a little, share a little and do a little. Because these days content isn’t the problem. It’s community and application.
Remember, if you can’t lead yourself towards some kind of growth or transformation, what business do you have leading others?
Imagine the growth that can happen when you’re with a group of people focused on becoming the next version of themselves? What impact does that have on the collective group? Think about what progress and accountability looks like in a group of aspiring and established leaders?
A model like this makes leadership development a team sport and not an individual battle.
What impact does emotional intelligence (EQ) have on leadership development or persona growth coaching?
EQ is all about managing yourself (emotions) in response to the environment around you. The ability to emotionally connect with your family, team or colleagues is critical amongst all other leadership skills.
“Out of control emotions can make a smart person appear stupid” – Unknown.
Here’s one way to slice and dice EQ – into four categories:
💥 Self awareness
💥 Self management
💥 Social awareness
💥 Relationship management
Tip: When your thoughts or emotions start to get out of control, have a practice/hack that grounds you. For example placing your hands or fingers in a certain way, thinking about something specific, reciting a calming phrase or simply taking three long breaths.

Some of you may know that along with owning and operating my private practice, CONQUER LEADERSHIP, I also work for Town of Caledon as a Communications Advisor. Well, I USED TO work there.
Not any more.
If you had asked me even a month ago, I couldn’t have predicted that I’d be leaving Town of Caledon. It’s been home in so many ways. However, when things show up and happen the way they did with a NEW opportunity, I couldn’t not take action – details coming soon … 😉.
Five years later … it’s been an absolute honour and privilege to stand side-by-side, shoulder to shoulder with everyone at Town of Caledon, serving the community.

One of the main things that’s pulled me through is the connection with my colleagues. Many of whom I’m lucky to call, friends! Both personally and professionally, I’m better off having worked at Town of Caledon.
