Move on from vs. Move forward through

Last week I had shared a tribute … lessons learned from mom. If you missed it, check it out here: LESSONS FROM MOM.

If you’ll afford me the time and attention, I’d like to continue sharing a few more thoughts but from a different perspective.

Move on from vs Move forward through

This is something I learned recently from an interview Ed Mylett did with a guest titled “Exploring the power of bittersweet.” In this interview they talk about what it means to move on from vs move forward through.

Here’s my take …

To move on from is to NOT honour the situation, and try and wipe it from memory. It’s like erasing something on a piece of paper. To me, move on from means “get over it.”

To move forward through IS TO HONOUR the situation. It’s like crossing out a mistake on a piece of paper. It’s still there and part of the story. To me, move forward through means to learn and grow from the situation.

As we start to rebuild our lives with mom not here anymore, we do so with the sense of “move forward through”. To learn and grow from the situation.

How does this relate to you?

When have you made a mistake or experienced something and thought to move on from vs move forward through? When would it have served you better to move forward through? To learn and grow from the situation?

💥 Maybe this shows up as you’re prospecting and not able to close any sales. Use a ‘move forward through’ mentality to learn and grow. How can you reflect and correct your approach? After all, sales is simply a transfer of energy, as I’ve learned from Paul Martinelli.

💥 Perhaps this hits home when leading your people and having to provide some constructive feedback? Use a ‘move forward through’ approach so that you can both learn and grow about each other and what your respective strengths are.

💥 What if your child falls off their bike and hurts themselves really bad? That could be a perfect time to teach a lesson about how they can move forward through – how they can learn and grow from the experience.

To move forward through means to have a wound that heals yet leaves a scar. It’s always with you. You learn to live with it and grow because of it.

In other news …

Don’t quit

A version of this poster hung in mom’s office at work. I figure now is as good a time as any to share it with as many people as possible.

We’re all battling something. We’re all trying to survive something. Whatever it is, quitting is never an option.

Final thoughts

Move forward through.

Don’t quit.

Conquer your potential.
