Mistakes happen – there’s no way around it! But let’s make sure we’re ethical coming out of our mistakes and use that opportunity to learn, grow and know what NOT to do.
Your past mistakes don’t equal your future identity. But it doesn’t mean this can be used to excuse mistakes that happen over and over again. That’s called habit. Most habits can be controlled.
If a mistake does happen, reflect and correct. Simple. Let’s not make it harder than it needs to be.
Now, when you do make a mistake, here are a few questions to help you reflect and correct. Of course this isn’t the only way to handle mistakes, but hopefully it helps you to either solidify or think about your own process:
👉🏽 What is the impact of your mistake(s) on others?
👉🏽 What emotions are showing up within you? How are you managing those emotions? (You may feel crappy about the mistake(s) and that’s normal. Making peace with those emotions is important.).
👉🏽 What actions or steps can you take to address the mistake? Who do you need to speak with? What is the best thing to say given the circumstance?
When you reflect and correct with intention and focus each time you make a mistake (or even when you experience a win), you will surely become more aware of who you are and how you carry yourself. In turn, I guarantee that you will start to show up differently in the world, FOR the world.
Bottom Line
If you screw up, own it, address it, and do better because of it 😜. This goes for when you’re leading yourself, your family, your community or your team.
So good. So True.
