I read an incredibly powerful lesson by Seth Godin, a marketing genius. He was talking about smart people. More importantly, characteristics of a smart person.
I realized that the same can be applied to leadership … leaders … leadership development.
💥 Leadership is no longer giving orders. It’s not worth much.
“One-way” leadership doesn’t work much these days. By that I mean, giving orders. What has a greater chance of working is “collaborative” leadership. That’s when the leader doesn’t see themselves as above or better than the collective but rather part of. Simon Sinek refers to “leadership constellations” which also relates.
But let’s stay with “one-way” leadership for a moment:
- When have you had a leader simply give you orders?
- How did that land for you?
- How inspired were you to do your work after that?
💥 Leadership development is no longer JUST access to exclusive information or teachings. Everyone has that.
Leadership development is about more than just content. It’s about content, community and application. Where those developing their leadership presence can find a safe space to learn a little, share a little and do a little. That’s when magic happens.
