Many of us have heard that “leaders are readers.” But readers of what exactly?
I was listening to a podcast recently and they were discussing this very topic. And let me tell ‘ya – what resonated was the fact that leaders ARE readers, yes. Just not in the way that I always thought.
Sure, leaders are readers of:
- Content (books, blogs, magazines, journals, emails)
…we get this.
But, leaders are ALSO readers of:
- People
- Trends
- Situations
- Self/Emotions
For me, this ties right into emotional intelligence (EI). It’s about being hyper aware of yourself and your surroundings. And when you get good at EI, you’re not just in control of your thoughts (which directly impacts feelings/emotions), you get to choose the thoughts you take.
🎬 The best visual that comes to mind is from the move Matrix.
You know the epic scene at the end where Neo is in the hallway, dodging all those bullets from the agents. You’re sitting there thinking, “Well, this is it. Neo’s done – GAME OVER! How the heck is he going to get out of this? Is he even the Chosen One?”
Next, he becomes so self aware that he stops the bullets. Picking one out of mid-air and watching the others drop to the floor.
Classic Chosen One move!
What if you could get that good with your EI? What if you were so self-aware that you could see or notice thoughts come up, pick the ones that serve you, drop the ones that don’t.
💥 Mental Matrix.
Imagine how this would impact your ability to read:
- Content
- People
- Trends
- Situations
- Self/Emotions
How can you CONQUER your EI?
CONQUER YOUR POTENTIAL!
