Growth under the surface
November 2025 | 4min read

Ever notice how the work you do to grow .. whether in leadership development or personal growth .. ends up changing you in subtle yet impactful ways?

Most people push so hard to meet expectations, hit goals, support others, and stay on top of things that they never stop to appreciate who they’re becoming along the way.

That pause? That’s where self-awareness starts.

And without self-awareness, there’s no real personal excellence.

I’m guilty of this too!

Because when you don’t pause, you miss the proof that you ARE actually leveling up .. as long as you’re putting in the RIGHT work!

Alignment has to be there!

Coaching insights

I was working with a City Manager who had been in this senior leader role for about 6 months.

We spoke about her growth throughout the coaching program.

Nothing dramatic. No ‘loud’ milestones.

Simply consistent, intentional effort to show up better than the day before.. the foundation of any strong growth mindset.

Am I right or am I right? 😀

I asked, “What do you appreciate about yourself in a new or different way as a result of your growth and this coaching experience?”

She hesitated.

And then it started to flow:

  • She had become more patient
  • She listened with more intention
  • She challenged herself and others instead of staying safe
  • She was more proactive in building meaningful connection
  • She prioritized important 1:1 conversations, even when the day felt full

This wasn’t just “leadership development.”

This wasn’t just “personal growth.”

It was both .. because the habits that make you a stronger leader are the same ones that make you a stronger person all around.

Leadership skills ARE life skills.

And how you do one thing is how you do every thing!

What I learned

Whether you lead teams, projects, families, or just yourself .. the real change happens inside and often quietly.

This is the part most people skip when they talk about high performance or peak productivity.

Patience, presence, listening, courage, connection… not just job skills but life skills!

And when you step back, and look at your growth objectively, you’ll see that you’re becoming someone with more depth, more self-awareness, and more intentional impact everywhere you show up.

That’s the real Return on Impact .. the return on becoming who you’re meant to be!

As long as you’re legitimately putting in the RIGHT work!

So let me ask you:

💥 What’s one thing you appreciate about who you’re becoming .. as a leader, independent contributor, husband, wife, brother, sister … as a HUMAN!

CONQUER YOUR POTENTIAL!
