Another episode of ConquerCast is out and we’re focusing on NOT apologizing for authentic leadership.
In my recent conversation with Nancy, we discussed themes connected to leadership, personal growth and excellence. Nancy is a retired Detective with the Durham Regional Police Service and a trailblazer in her field. She has spent over 30 years shaping not just her own career but also the environment and culture around her. She’s now turning her attention to serving the community through federal politics.
From her early years, leadership was naturally ingrained thanks to her parents’ involvement in community service. But it didn’t stop there. Nancy’s career in law enforcement saw her breaking barriers, paving the way for other women in the field, and proving that leadership isn’t about being the loudest person in the room but about showing up for others consistently.
💥 Consistency compounds!
Leadership is collaborative. Nancy highlighted that we all rise by lifting others. Whether it’s recognizing a team member’s contributions or mentoring the next generation of leaders, it’s about creating space for others to shine.
💥 Leaders create other leaders!
Nancy’s journey is a reminder that excellence isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress, perseverance, and sticking to your values even when the world challenges you.
💥 Progress over pace!
Whether she was the first female forensics officer or making moves toward federal politics now, Nancy never apologized for being proactive. She owns her decisions and encourages others to do the same. It’s a powerful reminder that leadership, at its core, is about showing up authentically.
This doesn’t mean do whatever you want and leave a trail of disaster without caring about anyone. Rather, be true to your values and kind to others. We can do both.
