Being lonely at the top isn’t a leadership issue, it’s a personality issue.
How many times have you heard, “It can be lonely at the top”. Or something equivalent.
I never understood that.
If it’s lonely at the top, you’re surely doing something wrong. Because it could also be lonely at the bottom too. Loneliness isn’t a leadership issue, it’s a personality issue.
And why would anyone want to be at the “top” all alone? The view and air of success is always better when you have company.

John Maxwell shares that one way to not be lonely at the top is to avoid positional thinking. Realize that:
1. Leadership is as much positional as it is relational
2. Don’t always think of yourself as your title
3. Get over yourself (this one’s my favourite)
If you base your leadership style on relationships, connection, communication … you’ll never be lonely.
Success and failure are cousins
Success and failure could be considered two sides of the same coin. What immediately comes to mind for some reason is those chocolate gold coins 😀.
Success and failure CAN lead to withdraw. Both can lead to an unhealthy separation from others. This is one of the reason’s why it’s important to bring others along the journey with you.
But also, can you imagine what accountability, productivity and transformation looks like when you’re in a community of like-minded people? A community of people who are focused on growth. In time, success becomes inevitable. And in time, this becomes a community of success, of greatness, of value.
Keep in mind though, we’re responsible TO each other, not always FOR each other.
