A trip down memory lane

Back in my day …. when I was a young thundercat … 😏…

I did a post-grad certificate in PR at Humber College. I had the opportunity to go back to Humber recently to facilitate a training for IGNITE Student Life Board of Directors.

This is the group that’s responsible for making decisions that impact student life, personal life and future life for all Humber and Guelph-Humber students.

Of the many things we discussed and unpacked … what anchored the entire session was values.

Why are values so important?

Because your values is all about the WHY – it’s the inside work – it drives EVERYTHING you do. When you’re aware of your values, there’s greater chance of aligning what you do with your why. Doing this work will help you see everything through the lens of your values, to find the direct and indirect relationship between what you have going on in your personal and professional.

And what makes this so important? It’ll help you own how you show up with a greater chance of operating from a place of content. Which then translates into peak performance.

Here’s what John Maxwell says about values:

“When leaders don’t have or maintain strong core values, their actions impact many more people than just themselves, often not in a positive way.

Your values are the soul of your leadership and they drive your behaviour. Before you can grow and mature as a leader, you must have a clear understanding of your values and commit to living consistently with them – they will shape your behaviour and influence the way you lead.”

-John Maxwell, ‘Five Levels of Leadership’

The session at Humber was introspective and interactive with so many nuggets of GOLD.

This group was absolutely smashing it with their answers and insight so with that, here are some questions for you to consider:

💥 What are your top five values?

💥 How do they impact your personal and professional leadership?

💥 What are some specific examples of those values showing up in your life, whether personal, professional or anything in between?

💥 What are the barriers to those values if not in control?

I’d LOVE to hear your answer to at least one of these questions. What you got?

CONQUER your values!
